₹100 Ghanshyam Dass Jain Commemorative Coin Unveiled at Birth Centenary Event

A ₹100 commemorative coin honoring Shri Ghanshyam Dass Jain brings a numismatic tribute into a centenary programme that also celebrated his work in music, cinema and social service. The coin and a postage stamp were unveiled on October 17, 2026, at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi, during the National Annual Cultural Conclave.

The denomination is confirmed as ₹100, and the release marks the birth centenary of Jain, born in 1925. The available details do not specify the coin’s metal, weight, diameter, edge, design elements, mintage or issue price, so collectors will need further information before assessing those features. The release is identified as the 14th commemorative coin of 2026, minted by India Government Mint, Hyderabad.

A tribute across coin, stamp and music

Pairing a coin with a postage stamp gives collectors two formats tied to the same anniversary. The event also connected the commemorative pieces with a new book, Sangeetmay Virasat: Ek Shatabdi, which recounts Jain’s life and legacy and includes a broad collection of his songs and plays. Together, these releases point to a career whose reach extended beyond film production and distribution.

Jain was known as a film producer and distributor associated with several successful films. Music, however, formed a defining thread through his life. He was given the title “Sangeet Samrat,” reflecting a reputation built through musical ability as well as his work in cinema and social service.

Born in Multan, in undivided India, Jain began learning music at five and was teaching it by the age of twelve. He mastered the harmonium, flute, tabla and violin. Those details lend the centenary tribute a personal dimension: the story begins with a child studying music and develops into a life that encompassed performance, teaching, film and composition. The book’s inclusion of songs and plays offers a way to encounter that creative record alongside the coin and stamp.

The programme and its organizers

The conclave was organized by the Ghanshyam Dass Bhagya Devi Jain Trust, in collaboration with the Shri Jin Kushal Suri Jain Khartargachchh Dadabari Trust, Jain Kushal Yuvak Mandal, Sargam Mandal and Jin Kushal Suri Jain Mahila Mandal. It also launched an annual cultural initiative themed “Shakti, Sadhana aur Samarpan.” The programme took place under the guidance and presence of Sadhvi Shri Sanyam Nidhishree, Sadhvi Shri Agamanidhishree and Sadhvi Shri Kalpanidhree Ji, disciples of Sadhvi Shri Maniprabhashree Ji of the Jain Khartargachchh tradition.

Among those attending were Shri Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Founder and CEO of Paytm (One97 Communications); Smt. Mariamma Thomas, Member (Philately, Media and Communication), Postal Services Board; and Kathak exponent Smt. Saswati Sen, along with other guests. Their presence brought together people connected with business, philately and the performing arts for a programme centered on Jain’s legacy.

What collectors can watch for

Bookings for commemorative sets are expected to open soon through India Government Mint, Hyderabad. No opening date or set contents are provided yet. The coin’s appearance in the supplied image may help readers recognize the commemorative design, but the image alone does not establish technical specifications, packaging, availability or production quantity. Those details matter when documenting an issue or comparing a coin with a later listing.

For now, the confirmed collecting notes are the ₹100 denomination, the 2026 release, the centenary subject and the mint named for its production. The release is described as the year’s 14th commemorative coin. Further booking details are expected to be added to the current and upcoming bookings section. Sudhir Lunawat was thanked for taking an interest in the coin and sharing details and images.

The centenary gives this issue a clear story to follow: a musician who began teaching in childhood, later worked in film, and left a body of songs and plays. When set and booking information becomes available, collectors will be able to add the practical particulars to that record and compare the coin’s confirmed specifications with the stamp and book released for the same occasion.
